Jan. 19th, 2019 10:10 amOn Wednesday night, I spoke with a Democratic House aide who confessed that she was ambivalent about the shutdown. The battle had unified her party, with Democrats linking arms in defense of their ideals and in defiance of Trump. Polls suggested that a majority of Americans were with them, and that the “optics” of the fight were good. “While it may be horrible for the country,” she said of the shutdown, “it’s fine for the party.”
And that's it. That's the death of the republic right there. Don't get me wrong, we've been dying most of my lifetime with the Republican party diving ever deeper into that mindset. So I'm not wholly picking on what is now my own party. I registered Democrat pathetically late in life. But if both parties go that way, I don't even know how bad it's going to get. I guess how bad the article is talking about. Party should be the means to serve the country. Party before country is back ass ward.
I don't know. Some days, I think we should cave. $5 billion will be a vast boondoggle accomplishing nothing. You can't build a wall for that much. The wall is evil, no mistake, but if he can't make it, aren't we kind of refusing to pay a drug addict because you don't give money to a drug addict. How much damage can he really do? Compared to how much damage is being done right now? I know it's a bad precedent and it will probably bite us in the ass but this is so bad. It feels worse to me. I suppose this is why I don't have kids, I'd make a terrible parent. Too porous boundaries.
I can trace pretty much every step of the way to how we got here. So I know how we got here. But I still don't "know" how we got here. How on Earth did we let it get this bad? How on Earth are we going to fix it when that many people don't want to? How could we possibly if that number is growing?
*sigh* you know, I deleted my news app on Wednesday because news is bad for me. And here I am reading the news. I suppose that's the real reason things got this bad. We just refuse to learn from our mistakes.
