Jan. 18th, 2019 03:35 pmWell, the time has come to start planning for halloween if I want to do anything decent. I've been wanting to be a Skeksi for years and I'm feeling it this time around. What I think I want to do is the low-tech version of this:

The important idea is that my head would be over the skeksi head which would be at my chest level rather than the usual attempt to put the skeksi head over the wearer's head so you're reaching up to operate it like so:

I just don't think that arrangement can be comfortable for long term wear, and I feel like being the hunch would be more comfortable for me. Equally important, I feel like it will let me do the costume more peicemeal, so I can have an ideal costume and whatever costume I can actually pull off. Upright, the head and one arm has to be ready to go. Hunched over, if all else fails, I can just hang crummy limbs on it, use the head like a sock-puppet and still probably look neat.
Last year there were a pair of Skeksis at the ball and they looked neat but you could also tell that they had spent all year on the costumes and knew what they were doing... and the heads still did not fare the best in good light. I, not being a skilled costume maker, feel I need to put everything in my favor that I can. So, hunch.
The second official question is going to be whether I should extend the body, so the Skeksi looks like it is curving and bending into that shape or just have it hunched over like it is human shaped bent over. I feel like it would look cooler extended but that would be more work AND I'm going to have to navigate in the thing without bowling anyone over, and space is going to be at a premium.
